Personal Care Assistant
Overview
The objective of the Personal Care Assistant is to help restore, maintain, and promote the health status of clients through home support, health observation, and support of and assistance with activities of daily living. The Personal Care Assistant helps clients perform everyday activities when they have a physical, mental, or cognitive impairment that prevents them from carrying out those activities independently. Tasks are performed in accordance with a care plan. This position reports directly to the assigned Veritey Health Supervisor.
Responsibilities
Assists with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) of the clients home and work environment, such as:
Bathing,
Personal grooming,
Personal hygiene,
Meal preparation,
Assisting client in and out of bed,
Assisting with ambulation and
Toileting and/or activities to maintain continence;
Provides home support that is essential to the health and welfare of the recipient in the areas of cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a general awareness of the Client’s home surroundings to help ensure the Client is residing in a safe environment and reporting concerns and/or issues to the Company Supervisor;
Reports observed changes in the Client’s physical, mental, or emotional condition;
Reminds Client to take medication; AND
Reports to the Company Supervisor weekly on each patient and contacts the supervisor in the case of emergency situations.
The Personal Care Assistant is NOT PERMITTED to perform any medical tasks, including, but not limited to, the following:
Administer shots, including insulin.
Pour any medication or place medication in the patient’s mouth.
Administer any enema.
Administer eye drops.
Change the dressing on a wound.
Cut the patient’s finger or toenails.
The Personal Care Assistant is NOT PERMITTED to perform any employment related tasks for the recipient
Qualifications
Successful completion of ninth grade education /AND/ Nonprofessional supportive service experience; /OR/ High school diploma; AND
Demonstrate basic knowledge of home management skills; AND
Be in good physical health, including a negative tuberculosis test, within twelve (12) months prior to the first assignment, and annually during each subsequent year of employment; AND
Completion of the Veritey Health pre-service training program and achievement of an average score of 85% or greater on the Company exam; /or/ evidence of current certification /AND/ four (4) hours of pre-service training with Veritey Health; AND
Demonstrate a caring attitude toward all persons regardless of age or any physical or mental disability; AND
Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Clients, co-workers, office staff and the general public; AND
Demonstrate the ability to effectively follow written and oral directions and instruction; AND
Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, which includes possessing the ability to read and write; AND
Demonstrate the ability to follow the Plan of Care with minimal supervision; AND
Demonstrate the ability to assist client appropriately with ADLs as related to personal care.
